Intelligent Reflection Surface Aided MIMO Radar System

This paper addresses the problem of radar signal path weakness, where intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) is exploited to provide indirect radar detection path. The radar beampattern and phase shift matrix of IRS are jointly designed to maximize the signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR) of the radar system, while the transmit power budget of radar and a non-convex unit modulus constraint imposed on the phase shifters are guaranteed. To tackle this problem, we propose a semidefinite programming (SDP)-based iterative algorithm and a closed-form-based iterative algorithm. Simulation results show that the IRS can help improve the performance of colocated multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar system.
