Landslide Detection using Interferometric Coherence of Different Polarization Configurations

With the continuous development of Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) technology, its application in landslide detection has become more and more extensive. Due to the occurrence of landslides, the diffusion of landslide soil often buries and destroys the original landform, changing the surface scattering mechanism in the disaster area; the displacement of landslide soil often causes changes in ground elevation. These changes will reduce the coherence of the landslide area. This paper focuses on landslide detection using interferometric coherence of different polarization-configuration images of a full-polarization Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR). The coherence maps of the two study sites are obtained by the pre-and post-landslide images of ALOS-2/PALSAR and then the landslides' decoherence of different polarization configurations (HH, HV/VH, and VV) is discussed. As a result, the HH and VV coherence maps could better reflect the changes of landslides than that of HV/VH, and VV coherence map offers the best description of the landslide area compared with the other two polarization configurations.
