Simulation and Interpretation of Multi-path Propagation in Multi-layer Structure by Ray-Tracing Algorithm

Ultra wide-band (UWB) signal is a kind of penetrating radio signal, which will produce multi-path effect when propagating in the interface of different dielectric constant medium. The multi-path propagation has an impact on the applications of the UWB signal and affects the accurate identification of the measurement results. In order to identify and remove the effects of multi-path propagation interference, it is of great significance to study the generation of multi-path propagation and the difference from direct propagation path. Since ray-tracing(RT) algorithm of optical geometry can simulate the propagation characteristics of electromagnetic waves, it can be used to track the propagation path of electromagnetic waves, and thus it can clearly distinguish the direct reflection echo and multi-path reflection echo of UWB signal. The simulation model result is compared with the measurement result to verify the multi-path echo of UWB signal and interpret the actual measurement result in the building tier structure.
