The Influence of Having a Second Child on the Willingness of Migrant Workers to Settle in the City—Empirical analysis based on2016 CLDS data

Since the reform and opening up, China’s urbanization process has been accelerating, accompanied by population mobility and population urbanization. At the same time, in the context of policies to encourage childbearing, exploring the urban settlement willingness of migrant workers, a floating population group, is of great significance for the rational planning and construction of cities in the future and the improvement of the social living conditions of migrant workers. This paper uses the data of the 2016 China Labor Dynamic Survey to establish a Probit model, and conducts empirical analysis from the dimensions of personal characteristics, family characteristics, social security, and employment characteristics. The results show that migrant workers with the intention of having two children may be willing to settle in the city, but the coefficient is not significant, indicating that the current data does not prove that the willingness to have a second child has an impact on the settlement of migrant workers in the city, and finally gives explanations and suggestions.
