Construction and Application of University Patent Classification Management System

Academic patent transfer in universities and research organizations has long been a difficulty, and effective patent management is essential for organizations to maintain their competitive advantage. In this research, an effective patent classification management system was introduced to improve academic patent transfer achievement by conducting comparison analysis of university patenting transfer activities among "9+2" Greater Bay Area cites, and performing multi-dimensional analysis of patent transfer activities. Patent valuation was carried out through an indicator-based approach, and the indicators were extracted from two commercial databases, providing a practical and convenient procedure. Cluster analysis was also applied to the high-value patents to generate the patent landscape that help discovery of the "white space" opportunities. Patent classification system improves the efficiency of patent management, thereby leading an improving rates of technology transfer and a deeper academic involvement in technology development.
