CORDIC-based FOC control of polar coordinate systems and FPGA implementation

Due to the traditional space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) and vector rotation transformation based on the Cartesian coordinate system are cumbersome, complex and resource-intensive, a FOC control algorithm based on the polar coordinate system is proposed. For the SVPWM modulation of the method, the vector modulus length and rotation angle are directly provided by the polar coordinate system, which is convenient to frequency conversion and voltage control. In addition, aiming at the coordinate transformation module, the PARK transformation is simplified to an efficient iterative calculation suitable for computers through the coordinate rotation digital computer (CORDIC) algorithm, and the inverse PARK transformation is converted to the angle addition operation by usage of the polar coordinate system. Therefore, the decoupling and modulation in the algorithm are simplified through the two advanced modules, which is beneficial to the realization in field programmable gate array (FPGA) and reduces the calculation. The simulation and experiment denote that the algorithm have reduced the hardware resource consumption and improve the computing efficiency.
