Energy use pattern of wheat crops production: A case study for East Uttar Pradesh Region, India

Availability and consumption pattern of energy and constraints in its proper supply and management for crop production were studied in wheat cropping systems in selected Ambedkar Nagar located in Uttar Pradesh in Northern India. The information was collected from farmers drawn from four villages, three each from three selected altitudes using two-stage random sampling. The average energy consumption values for wheat crops in Katehari, Akbarpur, Tanda, and Jalalpur were 19314.52, 20113.15, 20325.25, and 19897.62 MJ/ha. The output equivalent energy of the wheat crop was the highest in Akbarpur (51905.70 MJ/ha), followed by Tanda (51303.00), Jalalpur (50729.70), and Katehari (49083.30). Among all the blocks, Akbarpur shows the highest output-input ratio (2.58), followed by Jalalpur (2.55), Katehari (2.54), and Tanda (2.53). The main objective of the present study is to maximize yields in different wheat-growing regions (Uttar Pradesh (UP)) of the country by optimizing their energy consumption patterns.
