A Low-Cost Narrow-Wall Slot Array Antenna Design Based on Empty Substrate Integrated Waveguide

In this paper, a low-cost narrow-wall slot millimeter-wave antenna based on empty substrate integrated waveguide (ESIW) is proposed. The antenna is composed of eight FR-4 printed circuit board (PCB) layers with 1×16 radiation slots. By using a dielectric loading layer, the impedance matching performance of the proposed antenna is greatly improved. The measured and simulated results show that the -10dB impedance bandwidth covers 24 GHz industrial scientific medical (ISM) band (24 -24.25 GHz), with a stable gain of 19 dBi. This antenna can have a series of applications in the millimeter-wave short-range radar band.
