A Hybrid Photovoltaic/Wind Green Energy System for Outpatient Clinic Utilizing Fuel Cells and Different Batteries as a Storage Devices

One way to improve the dependability of green power sources and lessen the gap between demand and production is to implement an energy-storage system (ESS). Hybridizing green energy systems with ESS is one way to achieve these goals. After doing this study, we hope to be able to offer some guidance on how to scale the renewable energy components in a microgrid under various ESS scenarios. In this research, we present an island green energy system that makes use of photovoltaic solar panels, wind generators, fuel cells, and batteries to generate and store electricity. Homer Pro® Renewable Energy Programs' Hybrid Optimization Model was used to perform the study in an outpatient clinic in New Cairo, Egypt. Lead-acid, lithium-ion, vanadium redox, nickel-iron, zinc-bromine flow (ZBF), and fuel cell (FC), battery storage technologies are among those being considered. The goal of this research is to identify the most cost-effective and trustworthy storage system by comparing the features of various systems. Among the five kinds of batteries used for the study, lead-acid batteries performed the best. Adding FC to the battery ESS reduced the amount of extra energy by 3.6% and the percentage of unfulfilled demand and capacity shortfalls by 0.2%.
