Multi-Level Rolling Horizon Planning and Scheduling Integrated with Material Constraints using DBR Approach: A Heuristic for Smart Manufacturing

In recent years, industry 4.0 concepts have increased the trend of industries for digitization. In this situation, traditional planning and scheduling are no longer useful. Therefore, current research proposed multi-level planning and scheduling integrated with material constraints in rolling horizon periods. Current research utilized theory of constraints and Drum Buffer Rope (DBR) mechanism for multi-level planning and scheduling in mixed model production and proposed a multi-level planning heuristic (MLPH) using DBR and priority rules for efficient planning and scheduling considering material requirement planning and utilized capacity constraint resource (CCR) at maximum. The final compared results based on a real-world case indicate that the proposed multi-level planning heuristic outperforms the basic scheduling rules such as EDD, SPT and LPT.
