Study on the performance of shell and tube heat exchanger under different shell flow patterns

In order to study the performance differences of the shell side fluid of shell and tube heat exchanger in three flow regimes: transverse flow, longitudinal flow and helical flow, three heat exchangers with different baffle structures, namely, bow baffle, baffle rod and flower baffle, were constructed, and their numerical simulation analysis was carried out with FLUENT software to compare their heat transfer performance, resistance performance and comprehensive performance under different Reynolds numbers. The results show that the For the baffle rod heat exchanger, when the Reynolds number is less than 1676, the heat transfer influence factor is greater than the flower plate. When the Reynolds number is less than 2515, the heat transfer influence factor is greater than the bow baffle plate. With the Reynolds number continues to increase, the heat transfer influence factor gradually decreases. For the flower baffle, the influence factor of heat transfer is about 1.1, which is always greater than the arch baffle. When the Reynolds number is 25152, the resistance influence factor of the flower baffle is 6% smaller than that of the bow baffle, and the resistance influence factor of the baffle is 16% smaller than that of the bow baffle.
