On machine detection of tool breakage based on machine vision

In order to solve the problem of tool breakage in flat end milling, this paper proposes a machine vision based detection method to detect the tool on machine. Taking the flat end mill as the research object, the machine vision measuring device is used to take the image sequence of tool rotation, scan and calculate the maximum value of tool breakage on the image, and compare this value with the determination threshold to determine whether the tool breakage occurs. The on machine experiment shows that the method can effectively detect whether the tool is broken, the detection speed is fast, the accuracy is high and the performance of the measurement system is stable.
