Design of Extensible Software-Based Link-Level Wireless Channel Simulator for Internet-of-Things Communications

A novel link-level channel simulator for Internet of Things (IoTs) communications is developed in this paper. The simulator is software-based with an extensible architecture. It is a front-end and back-end separated architecture. In this architecture, the functions are modularized. The Application Interfaces (APIs) used for customized development are provided as well. Moreover, the methods for realizing the architecture based on Spring Cloud are illustrated. In addition, the implementations of the core functions, including channel generation and link-level simulation, are elaborately described. Finally, the preliminary realization of the link-level channel simulator is demonstrated to validate the feasibility of the work. The proposed channel simulator can provide foundations for designing, verifying, and researching ubiquitous IoTs communication links.
