Research on the Drum Brake Surface Defect Detection Based on HALCON

With the rapid growth of China's automobile manufacturing industry, the demand for heavy commercial vehicles is also growing. As an important part of heavy commercial vehicles, the drum brake plays an important role in ensuring the safe driving of vehicles. Therefore, the defect detection of the drum brake cannot be ignored. In view of the characteristics of the existing manual detection methods in China, such as slow efficiency, easy to be affected by the subjective factors of quality inspectors, high labor cost, and inability to meet the requirements of mass production and high-intensity work, a detection platform with CCD camera, signal processing mechanism, and actuating mechanism as the main body is built to detect the surface defects of the brake drum. By using CCD camera to collect the high-definition image of the drum brake, and taking HALCON software as the development platform, the collected image is processed by image preprocessing, threshold selection, edge detection, defect recognition and detection to extract the characteristics of the brake drum surface. It can be seen from the experimental results that the developed defect detection system can effectively detect and accurately locate the defects on the drum brake surface and can greatly improve the product qualification rate, which is of great significance to improve the production automation.
