Simulation of Highly Sensitive, Ultra-Low Power and Energy-Autonomous Wake-Up Receiver for Improving Wireless Sensor Network Performances

Energy harvesting wireless sensor networks (EHWSNs) have gained so much attention in the previous years, as they enhance long-term monitoring employment. Even so, the harvested power in surveying WSNs systems is bounded to few mW. In order to enhance the WSN system operating lifespan, many power management techniques have been introduced. Among the important outcomes is that the idle state of the receiver part is the major aspect that consumes energy and shortness the lifetime of a sensor node. To adjust the power consumption factor, the wake-up receiver (WuRx) has been introduced. The WuRX is an always-on receiver which is related to the the main receiver. The overall system design reduce the power consumption, and simultaneously influence the receiver sensitivity by reducing it, which result a limited communication range. This work will be achieved using WuRx-based Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) for enhancement of both energy efficiency and coverage area for the WSN. This paper will present an evaluation and an integration of an Energy Harvesting (EH) system based on solar cells in the OMNeT++ discrete event simulator. The proposed EH system will be attached to the introduced LNA hardware, with the introduction of its power consumption parameters in the simulation to extract the general conduct of the harvested energy on the system.
