Assessment of the power efficiency of a multilevel converter

This article discusses the features of the use of multilevel semiconductor converters with a reduced number of switches. The spheres and areas of application are briefly reviewed. The aim of the work was to study the quality indicators of the conversion of electrical energy in one of the perspectives of the topologies of multilevel semiconductor converters with a reduced number of switches. To achieve this goal, mathematical models were created based on switching functions, which were verified by simulation. These models made it possible to calculate output current and voltage, common mode current and voltage, differential voltage including instantaneous values, average and root mean squared values, etc. The results were obtained allowing to make estimates of the spectral composition of the output current and voltage of the converter. In addition, estimates of the efficiency of the converter were carried out, which made it possible to draw conclusions about a possible advantage.
