Digital Adaptation of the Phased Array Antenna Radiation Pattern in Interference Direction

Mathematical consideration of the method of forming “nulls” in the radiation pattern of a phased array antenna was carried out. As a part of the study, an “ideal” radiation pattern, as well as an optimized it in the different interference directions without taking into account phasing discreteness errors was built. Modeling of the radiation pattern was done accounting the properties of a digital antenna array. This method of forming “nulls” in the interference tuning was studied. The modeling results were presented in the form of a directivity graph. To obtain analytical estimates, we consider the problem of forming a null in the radiation pattern of phase array antenna with an equable amplitude distribution often used in practice. The presented results show that with digital beamforming the chosen algorithm for adapting the radiation pattern in the direction of the interference gives an accurate result, while with analog scanning distortions are observed.
