Development of a Digital Data Measurement System for High-Voltage Networks

The use of digital measurement transmission methods in the energy sector is at a stage of rapid development. This article reflects the results of designing portable device in the form factor of a tablet that can emulate and process digital stream of measurements including Sampled Values protocol from IEC 61850 standard. Main part of the paper is divided into 3 parts. In the first part power supply system of the device is described. Second part contains proposed structure of microchips with digital interfaces that can be used to transfer and process measurement data. The result of the hardware design with printed circuit board, device case and using examples (emulator mode, voltamperphasemeter mode, diagnostic mode) are shown in the third part. The developed device has unique characteristics in terms of weight, size and functionality. Its main advantage is its portable design and the ability to work with optical fiber, RS-485 and Ethernet connections.
