Protection Elements for Self-Healing Microgrids Using Only Local Measurements

There are unique challenges associated with protection and self-healing of microgrids energized by multiple inverterbased distributed energy resources. In this study, prioritized undervoltage load shedding and undervoltage-supervised overcurrent (UVOC) for fault isolation are demonstrated using PSCAD. The PSCAD implementations of these relays are described in detail, and their operation in a self-healing microgrid is demonstrated.
