Intelligent Speed Breaker Using Internet of Things

Roadway traffic increases every day due to increased population and urbanization. Connected roads help us to move from source to destination. Roadways are the second largest mode of transport used by citizens. Improper planning of roadways leads to traffic congestion and road accidents. Managing road traffic, especially during peak hours is a challenging task. To regulate traffic on roads various modalities are applied viz., traffic lights, road signs, and speed breakers. Installing speed breakers control the speed limits and avoid road accidents. This paper aims at designing a smart speed breaker that operates by understanding the movement of pedestrians and emergency vehicles. The speed breaker was constructed using sensors to raise by understanding the presence of pedestrians and emergency vehicles. The proposed model is also developed as a prototype and tested.
