Komodo Mlipir Algorithm to Solve Generator Scheduling Problems

Economic dispatch (ED) is one of the main problems in optimizing the electrical power system. The main goal of ED is to create an optimal schedule for all power plants to generate the minimum cost while complying with the ramp rate limits. Previously, numerous approaches have been made to solve ED, using mathematically and artificially based methods. This study proposes the use of an artificial method based on the state-of-the-art optimization algorithm known as the Komodo Mlipir Algorithm (KMA). The obtained result shows that the proposed method can outperform previous and other optimization methods. The test is conducted to calculate the ED from 42 power plants in the Jawa-Madura-Bali (Jamali) electricity system, Indonesia, which consists of thermal and hydro-power plants. The results highlight that KMA can be considered an alternative solution to ED.
