Control of DC Motor Speed on Smart Gate System Using Fuzzy Logic Controller

The smart gate system is a home gate that can be controlled and monitored remotely by smartphone. This smart home gate was driven by a DC motor which is controlled using a Fuzzy Logic Controller at a speed of 50 rpm. The control and data processing uses the Arduino Uno R3 microcontroller module. Control of DC motor speed was done by providing a PWM signal to the DC motor driver. The design of the smart gate system was equipped with a current sensor and a proximity sensor. The current sensor was used to determine the state of the DC motor and the proximity sensor was used to detect the presence of obstructions. The gate will stop if there was an obstacle and will continue the process of closing when the barrier is gone. The performance of the control system has settling time when opening and closing are 0.38 seconds and 0.39 seconds, respectively. The absolute error when opening and closing are 1.06 rpm and 1.37 rpm, respectively. The smart gate system can provide state information of the DC motor by using the current sensor.
