Prediction Based Controller Design for Electric Vehicle

Nowadays, the electric vehicle is gaining the attention of researchers due its very attractive features which the conventional internal combustion engine based vehicles don't have. In electric vehicles, the source of energy is the DC battery which runs the electric motor. As there is no engine, electric vehicles are extremely less noisy. However, the hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) contain both battery and engine. Here the engine serves only to charge the DC battery. The present article deals with the control system development pertaining to electric vehicle (EV). The FOPDT model of EV has been considered for designing the control system for it. Using the MATLAB, conventional PI and MPC (model predictive control) based control systems have designed for the electric vehicle model, and control performance of both are analyzed and compared.
