Study and Design of Compact Tri-band Polarization Independent Microwave Absorber for Stealth Applications

A compact tri-band polarization insensitive absorber for stealth applications is proposed in this paper. Triple bands are achieved by the systematic compilation of multiple resonators to get the high level of absorptivity. Proposed absorber offers an electrical size of $0.09 \lambda_{\theta} \times 0.09 \lambda_{\theta} \times 0.009 \lambda_{\theta}$ which shows compact and ultrathin nature of the proposed absorber. It exhibits absorptivity level of 99.76%, 98.72%, and 97.00% at 2.74 GHz, 5.02 GHz, and 7.67 GHz, respectively. The corresponding full width half maximum (FWHM) bandwidths are SO MHz, 160 MHz, and 310 MHz, respectively. Beside this, it also shows highly polarization independent nature due to its symmetric geometry. Simulation results reveal that the proposed absorber structure provides stable absorptivity even after varying the incident angle from 0° to 60°. Physical thickness of 1mm makes this absorber suitable for stealth applications in defense departments. Proposed absorber can also be used in LTE/WiMAX (2.6-2.S GHz), WLAN/Wi-Fi (5.1-5.9 GHz) applications.
