A Comparative Study on the Perovskite/Silicon Tandem Solar Cell’s Module Configuration

Tandem solar cells have the ability to eliminate the flaws of single junction solar cells, particularly their high cost, low PCE (power conversion efficiency), and remarkable thermalization and absorption losses. Many significant losses i.e., thermalization loss (40%), transmission loss (18%), collection loss (6%), and reflection loss (3%) occur that reduce the performance of the tandem solar cell. In this review, we emphasized 2-T (Two-terminal), 4-T (Fourterminal), and 3-T (Three-terminal) tandem solar cell module configurations with top wide band gap perovskite and bottom narrow band gap silicon monolithically and mechanically stacked solar cells. Moreover, distinguish these setups based on their electrical and optical losses. The perspective offers practical advice on selecting module configurations and achieving PCE near or beyond S-Q (Sochkeley-Queisser) limit raising expectation that 3-T device will eventually dominate the field of energy conversion.
