Modelling and Implementation of a Modified Z-source DC-DC Converter with High Voltage Gain Capability and Common Grounded

This article proposes a modified Z-source DC-DC converter aimed at providing high voltage gain capability with common grounded. Unlike the standard Z-source topologies, the proposed configuration exhibits a unique capability to provide higher voltage gain with a very low duty ratio, low voltage stress on power switches, and suppression of electromagnetic induction. Consequently, the proposed topological configuration allows a selection of semiconductor switches having low ON-state resistance and relatively lower voltage ratings, thereby improving reliability and efficiency. Besides, a description of steady-state analysis alongside various operational modes are detailed. Operational performance and a detailed stability margin of the proposed Z-source DC-DC converter is substantiated through MATLAB/Simulink simulation test cases and frequency response analysis, respectively. The efficacy of the devised Z-source DC-DC converter is examined using 60 W laboratory developed testbed through a commercially cheap Arm Cortex M4 based STM32F407VTG6 microcontroller.
