Consolidated Software Architecture for Safety-Critical AUTOSAR Applications

The software components and tasks within the automotive open system architecture (AUTOSAR) are designed without cross-cutting architectural concerns such as temporal and spatial isolations and synchronous and asynchronous communications for safety-critical applications. In particular, shared hardware resources with different criticality levels are challenging to isolate in safety-critical AUTOSAR applications. This paper proposes a software architecture to resolve crosscutting architectural concerns across software component designs, generating tasks, and the mapping runnables. Software component and task designs adopt the resource server with the client priority ceiling for spatial and temporal isolation of shared hardware resources. We provide a reference design that meets general requirements for safety-critical AUTOSAR applications in the powertrain domain. The experiment results show utilization sacrifice by 2% to 3% to attain spatial and temporal isolation of shared hardware resources.
