3-D-Printed Circularly Polarized Dielectric Resonator Antenna for Sub-6 5G Applications

In this paper, a 3-D-printed circularly polarized (CP) dielectric resonator (DR) antenna (DRA) is investigated for sub-6 GHz 5G applications. The DRA is composed of two types of interlaced dielectric strips with different dielectric constants. It is excited by a rectangular slot with two open stubs, which is fed by a fork-shaped microstrip feedline. The DRA is twisted in the horizontal plane to improve the axial-ratio (AR) performance. To verify the idea, a CP DRA operating in C-band is designed. The proposed CP DRA has a simulated 10-dB impedance bandwidth of 16.1% (4.57-5.37 GHz) and 3-dB AR bandwidth of 20.5% (4.41-5.42 GHz), thus giving a usable CP bandwidth of 16.1% (4.57-5.37 GHz).
