Delay Compensation in High Speed Hydraulic Control Systems to Improve System Stability

Hydraulic actuators are widely used in the industries and heavy products which requires high force and dynamic movement with precision. Hydraulic actuators are mainly linear cylinders or rotational motors. Slow Response time of hydraulic actuator limit their use for high speed application with stability and precision. Precision of movement is completely dependent on system stability and delay in actuators leads to degrade stability. In this paper we are mainly focusing on delay compensation by using Smith Predictor in time delay control system to improve stability in hydraulic systems. Smith predictor can compensate large or small delay components from the systems. We conducted several experiments on hydraulic motor for stabilization of motor rpm with and without smith predictor. Our result clearly proves improvement in system stability as settle time and rise time reduced significantly.
