Research on the protective performance of polytetrafluoroethylene for the fuze during the impact

In response to the demand for buffering and protection when the fuze is subjected to the high overload in the process of the warhead penetrating the target, the research on the buffering performance of polytetrafluoroethylene is carried out. A vertical air hammer test device in the laboratory is used to simulate the dynamic collision process of the projectile body. And a test device is designed to simulate fuze and output acceleration signals simultaneously for comparative study of buffering performances of the material. The buffering mechanism of polytetrafluoroethylene is analyzed by using the stress wave transmission mechanism, and the effect of its thickness on the buffering performance is studied. The comparison tests of aluminum foam with polytetrafluoroethylene are conducted in multiple impacts. The results show that polytetrafluoroethylene has good buffering performance when the impact overload exceeds 40000g, and it is effective to improve the buffering performance by increasing the thickness of the buffering material. However, with the increase of thickness, the buffering performance improves fast at first and then slow. And the buffering performance of PTFE is superior to that of aluminum foam in the process of multiple impacts.
