Analysis of the power system stability upon integration of PV system into the national grid of the Island of Mauritius

Mauritius has no coal mines or oil wells, but the island has an abundance of renewable energy resources. The alternative is to use the latter as an option. However, because of the unpredictable production of solar radiation, integrating a considerable fraction of renewable resources onto the transmission network is extremely difficult. Power stabilization is the most important criteria that will determine the degree of penetration of PV in active distribution network. Furthermore, the dynamic behavior of voltage is another issue that arises during PV integration. The aim of this paper is to investigate and analyse the dependability of integrating PV into the grid. Data from a 15.2 MW power plant in the island of Mauritius has been used for this case study. Furthermore, a 30-bus system has been considered as a standard test bus platform for the analysis. Simulation has been performed with the help of MATLAB software to calculate, analyse and visualize the output results on the four case studies namely the normal (without PV) interconnected grid and Integrated PV grid both in summer and winter. Simulation to show the viability of the proposed control technique of enhancing the power system quality has been carried out and results displayed.
