IoT based Hand Wrist Band with Safety Features for Children Using 3D Printing Technology

Child safety and well-being is an important concern in today’s world. Due to factors of work and responsibility, parents do not always find the time to monitor the health and safety of their child, which can have serious adverse effects if certain illnesses are not identified in the early stages. IoT makes it possible to monitor certain parameters regarding an individual remotely, without the actual human interference involved in the process. This paper proposes an IoT based 3D printed hand wrist band for children with safety features to help parents locate and supervise children through measurement of body temperature and heart rate. The system is developed using Arduino uno microcontroller, DHT 22 temperature sensor and KY-039 pulse sensor. The system utilizes a SIM SOS GSM/GPRS/GPS module for obtaining the GPS location of the user and transmitting data through SMS alerts and 2G networking for data upload to web server provided through Blynk application. The methodology of the system is such that when pre-defined thresholds of body temperature and heart rate are crossed, the system automatically sends SMS alert to the programmed contact number of the parent along with live data upload of the sensory values and the global coordinates of the device to imply a situation of emergency. The above system aims at preventing attacks on children as well as instantly notifying parents when the child is missing or shows symptoms of irregular vital signs. The accuracy of the system is measured for the sensors and the GPRS module used. Future development and potential can be seen in the system’s capability of providing additional mechanisms of non-lethal self-defense modules such as neuro-shock stimulator, as well as maximizing performance and stability.
