Quantization-based Data Size Reduction for Energy-Efficient Internet of Medical Things

This paper presents a quantization-based data size reduction (QDSR) for the energy-efficient Internet of medical things. The QDSR aims to reduce the energy consumption of medical units (MUs) by quantizing the sensing data to be transmitted. To minimize the impact of data quantization on data analysis, we determine the number of quantization levels considering the variation of prediction accuracy. The experimental implementation was conducted to verify the feasibility of QDSR. The results showed that QDSR obtains better performance in terms of energy consumption and device lifetime than the existing scheme.
