Design and Development of IOT Controlled Intravenous Infusion Device

There has been a surge in innovations in recent years, which have improved healthcare and facilitated rapid and safe recovery. It is essential that today’s technology be functional and user-friendly. During treatment, drugs are delivered via the infusion pump, which controls and regulates fluid administration. Pump exploitation is common among hospitals to administer critical fluids, including high-risk medications. A variety of infusion pumps are available, including ambulatory pumps, large volume pumps and patient-controlled analgesia systems. Electronics in modern infusion pumps, such as LCD displays, consume a lot of power, resulting in shorter battery life. As a result of large displays and user interfaces, the dimensions of the system increase, leading to a bulkier device. In such pumps, patients records and pump data are difficult to manage after a certain point because of the limited chip area and no database connectivity. Project seeks to develop an infusion pump that provides remote monitoring and control capabilities for patients and doctors through IOT-based monitoring and control platforms. This project’s primary goal is to eliminate and replace power-hungry components from the existing system and convert it into an IOT device that can be monitored and controlled via an Android smartphone while keeping cost and the device power consumption low.
