Impact of Variable Aperture Area of Receiver on High-Speed OOK Underwater Visible Light Communication System

In Underwater visible light communication system, light propagation is mainly impacted by the optical properties of water. In underwater communication system, channel experiences attenuation on the optical information signal in the form of absorption, scattering and turbulence. These attenuation factors cause severe temporal and spatial dispersion, which limits the bandwidth and range of the communication system. In underwater visible light communication (UVLC) system, misalignment between transmitter and receiver can be mitigated by using Gaussian beams. Other than multiple scattering, spatial, angular, and temporal scattering is also present. For in-depth theoretical analysis, we evaluate BER and SNR of the channel for different aperture area of the receiver. Hence, optimizing receiver aperture area for channel bandwidth and power loss. We investigate the effect of aperture size of the receiver on the behavior of link distance, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), bit-error-rate (BER), and power loss for different oceanic water types.
