High Speed Optical Access Networks For This Decade And The Next (Invited)

The uninterrupted increase in bandwidth will drive the need for continuous scaling of optical access networks to higher bitrates in a cost-effective way to meet these future demands. Today, PON fiber networks can already deliver speeds up to 10G and 25G. 50G PON will become available in the latter half of this decade, while 100G capabilities will be needed by the end of this decade. This paper provides an overview of optical access networks needed for this decade and the next.
