Optimization of Building Energy based on Mixed Integer Linear Programming

Hybrid renewable energy systems have become a hub point to minimize the electricity consumption cost and the greenhouse gas emissions and to meet the requirements of electric power demand which is continuing to increase every year. In that the objective of reducing the energy consumed from the electrical network is becoming one of the important challenging issues of researchers. In this paper a mixed integer linear programming optimization method applied to minimize the electricity bill cost of a building composed of wind turbine, photovoltaic solar and storage system. The building is connected to the grid. Moreover, this optimization method is not only managing when and how much energy should be charged or discharged from the battery but also managing the power imported /exported from / to the grid. The results showed that the mixed integer linear programming approach reduced the total power costs and the battery storage system was not charging or discharging during all the day, which ensured a longer lifespan.
