Optical Kerr effect in the evanescent field of liquid-immersed nanofibers

Optical nanofibers with tiny diameters can confine light allowing to generate nonlinear effects and an intense evanescent field which can interact with the external medium. The main objective of this paper is to demonstrate theoretically the contribution of the evanescent field to the Kerr effect in a silica nanofiber immersed in highly nonlinear liquids at wavelength 1064nm. We found that we can have an evanescent Kerr effect greater than the usual Kerr effect for nanofiber’s diameter below 1.036$\mu$m in acetone, which is almost twice as significant as the value obtained at wavelength 532 nm.
