Designing a Microstrip Band Pass Filter for 5G Applications

With development of 5G mobile communication, there is need of new hardware for the proposed frequency bands. In this paper, we have explored the usability of 28 GHz frequency band for 5G applications. This usability invites suitable hardware for the same. In microwave components, band pass filter is necessary for the communication. Hence we tried to design a suitable band pass filter for this specific band of frequency. We have designed a parallel coupled line(PCL) band pass filter(BPF). It has centered frequency at 28 GHz and has fractional bandwidth of 0.1 i.e. a bandwidth of 2.8 GHz. The filter is designed with Chebyshev response with 0.5 dB pass band ripple. We took several substrate into consideration and simulated each of them to find out the best choice available for the filter design. We also designed a LC equivalent circuit to have the ideal results as a reference point for the simulations.
