SIC Error Impaired Cooperative NOMA-IoT Network: Throughput and Goodput Analysis

Internet-of-Things (IoT) networks are likely to have billions of linked devices, which are designed to support a variety of applications with different communication needs. So, enabling non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) for IoT devices is compelling due to its effective spectrum utilization as compared to orthogonal multiple access (OMA). In this paper, we focus on investigation of short packet based NOMA transmission to two IoT users. The packet transmission to strong user
$(\mathbf{S}_{\mathbf{U}})$
is carried out via direct link, whereas both direct link and decode-and-forward (DF) relay assisted cooperative link is utilized for transmission of packets to weak user
$(\mathbf{W}_{\mathbf{U}})$
. To analyze the performance, analytical expressions of throughput and goodput are derived by considering the realistic assumptions of successive interference cancelation (SIC) error and relay interference. We also derive the insight related to the impact of power allocation factor and SIC error on throughput. Furthermore, the numerical results of the investigated model are also compared with existing NOMA and OMA based transmission scheme.
