Fiber Optic Sensors based on 2D Nanomaterial for Humidity Sensing Application - A Short Review

Two-dimensional (2D) materials have attracted considerable attention in the field of sensor technology due to their high surface area, large electric conductivity, and abundance of active surface sites. A fiber optic sensor is a type of sensor that provides a measurable optical signal based on the state of the object being measured. Various fiber optic sensors have been designed and analyzed in the recent past years including gas, temperature, humidity, pressure and chemical. This research study summarizes the recent progress on humidity sensing using 2D layered materials based fiber optic sensors with the parameters such as measurement range, sensitivity, time response and its recovery. Important 2D layered materials such as graphene, graphene oxide and reduced graphene oxide, hexagonal boron nitride, transition metal di-chalcogenides (TMDC’s), black phosphorous (BP), and MXenes are taken into consideration.
