Abstract:

A good navigation within the landscape of reliability standards became a compulsory demand in nowadays DC-DC converters. And mastering the updates on the latest revisions, too. Since the latest version MIL-HDBK-217F Notice 2 released in 1995, newer failure rate prediction standards have appeared on the electronic systems reliability market. These are introduced because of its limitations, and not being updated since 1995. In this work, the failure rate and MTBF for a high current low voltage PoL (Point of Load) buck converter is calculated with the latest reliability prediction procedure for electronic equipment - Telcordia SR-332 Special Report (Issue 4, March 2016), providing useful design data which are helpful tool for design engineers who use the so called “design with the reliability in mind” concept. The components' environmental conditions were defined by a standard buck converter used for calculation methodology. Results are compared by taking account of the influence of the component's temperature and application of specific parameters such as temperature cycles.
