DEVINE: Distributed Energy-related Virtual Network Embedding Approach utilizing Multiple Objective Optimization

Virtualization is the key technology in cloud computing where creation of various virtual networks is done by the procedure of virtual network embedding (VNE). This increase the network utilization drastically. However, an efficient network embedding, to optimize certain characteristic parameters, is a non-trivial task. Many researchers have proposed solution to this problem, with varied optimization aspects such as better energy utilization, reduced embedding cost, as well as increased revenue. However, most of the proposed work target a centralized cloud. The problematic approach of virtual network embedding is a NP-Complete problem and many metaheuristics have been applied by the researchers to address this problem. The proposed work applies an algorithm for virtual network embedding with multi objective optimization for distributed clouds. The proposed VNE algorithm tries to optimize cost and energy and provides a suboptimal solution which avoids network congestion. The evaluation of the work is done by massive simulation and comparing it to some existing algorithms. The outcomes are encouraging.
