Experimental Validation of C-V2X Mode 4 Sidelink PC5 Interface for Vehicular Communications

Motivated by the research interest in the EMERGE project, this contribution aims to assess capabilities and reliability of C-V2X Mode 4-based vehicular communications. In particular, we refer to the Sidelink channel that is made available in the Mode 4-based PC5 interface within the LTE Release 14. A comprehensive investigation of the technical specifications is undertaken as the basis for the executed experimental campaign. From the large set of the performed tests and measurements, results are reported in terms of latency and packets reception ratio of Cooperative Awareness Messages (CAMs). Our results show that the performance of Sidelink channel is compatible with implementation and deployment of a first set of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITSs) services.
