Using DNA In Adynamic Lightweight Algorithm For Stream Cipher In An IoT Application

The Internet of Things has become one of the most common terms nowadays. It covered many aspects of our lives, such as (smart buildings, smart cities, health care monitoring, smart homes. … etc). The Internet of Things devices are limited in resources and require dealing with huge amounts of data collected by sensors, and this data may be sensitive and heterogeneous. With the increasing demand for a secure IoT environment, securing IoT applications has become the primary goal for researchers. Using existing encryption methods on these restricted devices is a very difficult process. The use of lightweight encryption methods that require limited resources was the ideal solution. In this work, we proposed a lightweight dynamic encryption algorithm with a one-time board dynamic key using the DNA of the stream ciphers, the devices collect data over a specified period of time periodically and encrypt that data by generating an OTP-generated dynamic key (DLFSR), Both the text and the key are encoded into a dynamic DNA format as well, then the text is encrypted through an addition process based on the proposed table to produce the ciphertext, and the information needed to decrypt is hidden in the ciphertext to be a key distribution mechanism. Statistical test analysis of the generated ciphertext and key and evaluation of the high performance of the algorithm indicate the suitability of the proposed algorithm to provide security in restricted devices. The experimental results showed the efficiency of the algorithm compared to previous works.
