Herstory: an AR storytelling application presenting women's heroic lives in public space

Augmented Reality (AR) storytelling for cultural heritage sites is witnessing a new wave of scholarship and experimentations underpinning core issues of the discipline alongside the development of enabling technologies. A promising research direction points to the interactive narrative design depending on the aims and desired outcomes of each project. The aim of the application “Herstory” is to design a compelling narrative out of fragmented stories and evidence that interprets and presents women's heroic lives in public space. In this paper, we discuss the design and implementation of an AR storytelling application and the critical steps required to create an appropriate experience for the user through a cohesive narrative that unfolds in a place of executions.
