JAL MITRA Water Quality Monitoring and Reporting Using IoT, Cloud & Analytics

Water is a key ingredient to life on earth. It is important to monitor and control the quality of water. As part of this study, an automated water quality monitoring and alerting system was envisaged. We propose a tripod solution to this problem in the form of an integrated system of Water Quality Monitoring and Reporting. It uses capabilities of internet of things, cloud and analytics. An IoT based platform collects vital water quality parameters and connects to cloud. The cloud-based analytics engine was used to monitor and perform analytics. Both these are integrated in the form of a web application referred in this paper as “Jal-Mitra”- a water friend. This helps to perform a root-cause analysis of water quality degradation at a sensor-deployed location and provide automatic recommendations. Such a system can be deployed in a large area such as lake, river and aquaculture for continuous water quality monitoring.
