Design Considerations on a UHF RFID Smart Gate Antenna for the Detection of Tags Embedded into Boots

In this paper, preliminary considerations on the design of both reader and tag antennas to enhance the performance of a UHF RFID Smart Gate system are presented. Specifically, the detection of UHF RFID tags embedded into safety boots is enhanced by properly choosing the tag layout as well as the reader antenna topology. A model of the scenario is considered, and Power Transfer Efficiency (PTE) estimation methods are used to optimize the system performance.
