Vehicle- RSU Interaction Behavior Modeling and RSU Deployment Evaluation for Bus Priority

Bus priority is one of the effective ways to solve the urban congestion problem in the cooperative vehicle infrastructure system (CVIS). To analyze the impact of the roadside unit (RSU) on the connected buses priority scenario, we introduce the definition of the RSU deployment scheme. First, a model of the communication behavior is established by combining the communication characteristics of RSU and connected buses. Then, a bus priority strategy based on the bus-RSU interactions is proposed. Finally, the RSU deployment scheme evaluation system is built up using the data envelopment analysis (DEA) model, and some indicators, such as average vehicle delay, average vehicle speed, average bus acceleration and average bus speed, are selected to evaluate the traffic benefits. The simulation results show that the RSU deployment scheme for bus priority needs to consider the location of both intersections and bus stops. Meanwhile, with a reasonable interaction cycle, the increased RSU communication distance can enhance the traffic benefits.
