Energy Metering and Controlling using Android and IoT based Smart System

A smart method of energy consumption metering is vital for conservation of energy. To that end, an IoT enabled smart energy metering system is proposed in this paper. This system runs on Arduino uno and NodeMCU controllers that are communicating with each other and receiving inputs from voltage and current sensors along with an analog energy meter. The real-time values of current, voltage, and energy units consumed are measured by the aforementioned sensors and sent to Arduino. The internally loaded program of Arduino calculates power factor and instantaneous power, and serially sends the collected values to NodeMCU, that transfers it to IoT enabled Blynk app via wifi connection. Blynk app is facilitating the availability of current, voltage, power, power factor and energy consumed data on user’s mobile screen for monitoring. Additionally, in this system provisions are made for remote control of appliance and surge protection by setting an upper threshold for power consumption. In end, hardware setup is designed and test result is satisfactory.
